QUTUMBOTSOV – Renaissance of QC

Hi guys. Having enjoyed the acme of luxuriousness in the past two weeks, I want to make a statement on the Corporate world, “All of you get ready to enjoy the Corporate ambience. It is simply rocking”. Qutumbotsov 09 of QualComm may be the reason behind my comment. A brief explanation about the function- The cultural fest, a feast for everyone’s eyes and tastebuds , where all the employees of QC will arrive along with their families(starting from Grandma to daughter) to enjoy the extravaganza. When we guys were informed that we were a part of the theme show happening on that day, we were very much enthralled about it.(Later it turned out to be a damp squib as we were given the roles of soldiers. Seri Vidu Vidu!!).

To describe the place where Qutumbotsov happened in a single word, it was extra-spacious and extra-luxurious (Okay! I accept, two words). The hall, called HICC (Hyderabad International Convention Centre) was filled with all possible latest technological equipments to furnish the hall with decorative features. The car parking was filled with (only) BMW, Audi, Benz, etc.(We were the only lot, who went there by Auto!).The event was host by a famous (we were told so!)Telugu singer and started off with a classical dance followed by Intrams-type dances by QC employees (Rajesh was also a part of the dance troupe).

Just when the event started to go off the track (as lot of employees were busy in eating), Tina (pop singer) was introduced along with her dance troupe to light up the audience. She dressed like a typical pop singer (Don’t ask me what!) and her dance troupe danced with maximum enthusiasm and little _____ (You know what!!). The event started to gain the momentum, as the employees crowded the dance floor near the stage and started dancing to her songs, leaving their wives shouting their names from the back(We were sitting quietly at the back, believe us!). The show on the whole consisted of all the colorful features (I strictly meant laser lights, stage set-up and non-living miscellaneous) one would like to a have a look at. Unfortunately we missed out the disco which started in the late night (as we left the show early). Qutumbotsov, was almost 5 times bigger (and smaller in another sense)than our Renaissance. Only after this function, I realized why QC stands 6th in the list, ’Great Places to Work’.

Payanangal Mudivathilai

Hi guys. On Saturday, we had our first unofficial outing since we had been to QC. Whenever a person comes to Hyderabad, he is down with IMAX fever. We were no immune to that fever. We got up early at 11.00(believe me, it’s early!)and started off on our IMAX-3D mission. After booking our tickets for the movie 2012(showtime- 15.45),went inside the Mall. All we could observe after roaming around it for 2 hours was, Mall was large and the prices of the items sold there are larger than that. If you want to enjoy the life of a Corporate, first rule is your purse must outweigh you.

We had our lunch at McDonald’s. We searched for around 5-10 mins to find some stuff to eat that is economical(even that cost us Rs.50/item). Attracted very much towards 4DFX, I persuaded both Rajesh and Neeraj to go for one. We went for ‘HAUNTED HOUSE ‘ and it was a 20 minute movie. It was really a awesome experience and everyone must definitely watch one. 4D is a medley of 3D effects and movement of chairs + showering of water and blowing of air.

Finally we went inside IMAX –large screen(it should have been named extra large)at 15.30. The screen was really inexplicably large. IMAX screen will be approximately double times of a normal theatre screen. Even if you watch a worse movie with little visual and sound effects at IMAX, it’ll seem a excellent to you. If you go(sorry, come) to Hyderabad, never miss out IMAX.

After a mindblowing experience at IMAX, we went to Central Mall(largest Mall in Hyd). We actually thought of shopping there, but the prices suggested us to go for some better Mall! All we could afford was a coffee(named SUNSET ORANGE)from JAVA-GREEN which we drank that till we reached our home.

Moral: If you have a lot of money and don’t know how to spend it, don’t worry. (Wel)Come to Hyderabad.

Outing No-2!!

Hi guys. I could see your eyebrows getting raised after seeing the title of the post. Yeah we had our 2nd outing. Before that, the 3rd and 4th days at QC was very similar to attending classes (did nothing, but gud time pass). We finished the procedures of getting ID cards and were assigned separate cubicles. Also we were briefed about the projects assigned to us. I could not get even a single line of that. The whole thing was Greek and Latin to me. On my 3rd day, I attended a team meeting in which people from my team (Oh! forgot to tell you, I belong to CoreBSP team) showcased their updates in the last 2 weeks. Only thing I understood in the meeting was the last line of it, “We have planned to go for a Team Outing this Friday. Have fun”, my Manager said. AGAIN HUH?!OK.

I would like to stress upon the point that, mine is almost a ALL-MEN team. I imagined that we would be having team building stuffs and some HR related activities. There was only a small difference between my imagination and the reality. IT HAPPENED IN THE OPPOSITE WAY. It was purely fun and full of sports. We played Cricket in the morning and rest of the sports(Badminton, Volleyball,TT,etc) in the afternoon. In between, We had a wonderful lunch and Snacks. The travel time was engaged with Dumb-charads and Anthaksharis. My manager called me and said that you are good at almost all the sports, but the truth was they were pretty bad. Altogether it was a fantastic outing and I was able to familiarize myself with everyone in the team.

Intern Outing

Hi guys. You would've been surprised to see the title of the post. Yeah. We had Intern outing on the very second day we joined. First place we went to was, School for eradicating Child Labour run by QC. Lot of small children exhibited their talents by dancing and singing. We were all really happy to see the smile they wore on their faces. As we dont know both Telegu and Hindi(but thoda thoda maalum), we weren't able to interact with them. But still had a very good time there. It was a fantastic trigger for our outing.
Coming to most delicious part of my story, we had lunch at 3 star hotel(i suppose, bcoz it was too big). I wasn't able to recognise even the name of one item we ate. We started with Minestorm soup and ended up with dessert with some north indian name. the dishes weren't too good, but still good. Then we had our Team building activity following that. We were split into 3 teams and it was a kind of saving-people from the shipwreck game and it was great fun as I got a good-looking girl as my captain! After the activity was over, we had a brainstorming session on what game should we play next. Finally we settled upon HELP (Don’t worry if you are not aware of the game, I’ll explain you).
The game (HELP) was the best of the outing. It started with a guy named Pramodh(from BITS ofcourse)explaining us the rules. He started, “there will be 2n+2 people , 2n people will be split into n pairs and among the rest two one will be the CATCHER and other one will be the SINGLE….” His way of explanation very clearly pointed that he was from BITS, Pilani and he belongs to the fruit category. Now coming back to the game, the catcher must chase the single and get him/her and meanwhile the single would break a pair and join with someone. Again the left out guy will be the single (Enough of rules! I’m able to catch your mind voice). The best part of the game was that the pairs must hold their hands together (bahooth accha game). Oh k. I could smell the burning of someone’s stomach, I’l stop with the game explanation.
We had our snacks then and started off with Anthakshari(only Hindi and Telugu). But we guys were able to get the Tamil version of the each and every song they sang(almost all were from Vijay movies). When we left to the outing, PSG people were in a separate bus, on returning they wanted us to come in the same bus. All way Anthakshari continued. What an excellent outing! We were very sad as it was a one day outing, it must have been a month outing. Hmmm. MORAL: Corporate , Corporate than…..

Perfect Start!!

For ages i've been imagining how a corporate world would seem like and what will be the work culture over there. After getting QualComm intern, i thought i was blessed to see the reality before six months. With a bunch of expectations and anxiety(also with a lot of fear)finally i arrived to the world,i had wanted to see.
First day at QC
NOTE: Herein, I'll be referring QualComm as QC
Following were the works assigned to us on the first day,
1. Arranging the chairs
2. Decorating the Hall
3. Stick up Charts
4. Giving away goodies
5. Taking Photos(I din!),etc
Sounds more odd?It was so familiar with what we all did in SU. Same thing. The reason was, it was INTERN TECH DAY. 22 interns from BITS,Pilani(whose six month tenure is over) were showcasing their talent(exhibit the work they've done) in the middle, when we were doing the arrangements for the fun games. It was a great to see even the company's VP coming and participating in the fun events. Also we had a tough time distributing the goodies, as everyone wanted one!
I wanted specifically mention more about these BITS people. They never treated us like new interns , and they invited us to join and help them in making the event more memorable. We became one among them in minutes. Such kind of thing would never happen with South Indian people. One more very great thing to note(IMPORTANT POINT)was the chemistry between the Boys and Gals there. You'll have to search hard to find a gal or guy alone, they are always mixed up.
Everything went well on the first day and we were appreciated for what we did(though we did nothing significant). I still haven't been exposed to the Corporate world, but i've made up my mind. This is how the corporate should look like. IT WAS FUN:)
